Default New guys first cub

Hello from Minnesota,

I just got my first Cub Cadet, a 2186 at an estate auction for $250. It's been sitting for five years in a garage since the man passed away. No gas left in it, so that's a good sign. Had a tag on the steering wheel so it looks like he just had some work done on it. The oil, spark plugs and air filter looks new, but the battery is bad and won't charge. Looks like everything is there, all belts look OK. I guess I'll have to put in a new battery and some gas and see what happens. Wish me luck.

Welcome to the forum! Nice to get low hours cheap! What's your plan for it? Flip it or use it?

Thanks for the welcome, My old Sears tractor poop out so l was looking for a new ride and heard good things about cub cadets, my 35 year old wheel horse still runs like new with a 17hp Kohler engine in it so I wanted something with a Kohler. I have four acres to mow with my house and cabin so im sure this cub will do the job

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
