Default Project 1811......thinning the herd

I picked this 1811 with a blown head gasket in 2013. I drove it off the trailer and into the ole chicken barn. There it sat until 2017 and I pulled it outside when I tore the chicken barn down.

Now it's time to thin the herd!

I pulled it into the shop a week ago to get it running and found this this thing is caked in grease, grime and oil everywhere.

I pulled the engine and the rear cover to drain the Hy-Tran.

Then it was pushed outside and pressure washed.

I wonder why it blew a head gasket?

Looks like a remote oil line is leaking also so I posted a ? in the Kohler Engine Section.

Yesterday I got the engine and tins cleaned up, oil drained and ordered some gaskets to put it back together to see how well it will run.

I'll keep y'all posted on the next step.

I always feel good for the tractor when they get all cleaned up.
They do have feelings don't they?

Hard to believe they survive that kind of cooling blockage, but they do.

I would change the oil seal behind the Stator while your there. My 1641 looked like that when I took the flywheel off.

Yes sir Cannon. Both the front and rear seals will be changed, valves checked and the PTO bearing will be replaced while the engine is out.

Yep, it’s already pulled off and it will be opened up and will be cleaned and lubed before it goes back on.

I need to check the rockshaft and make sure it’s not siezed up too.

Default Thinning the herd...

Never seen anyone turn their tractor on its side before to power wash it. Probably was the best way to get rid of all the grime on it though...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
