Default CH18S Oil leak - source? 1864 W/CH18S

Hey guys:
Trying to get my 1864 running. Got it running with new head gaskets, valves, etc, plus coils. Now with it running (just sitting on the frame) for a minute I get a pool of oil under the flywheel. I pulled the flywheel thinking the new seal must be cockeyed, but it looks straight and dry. All the oil is on the starter side of the flywheel, from about 1:00 (lower cyl. fines) to 5:00 and dripping from there. The inside of the flywheel is dry, which would seem to preclude a main seal leak. Is there anywhere else in this area that could be spitting oil, and maybe transferring?
Suggestions welcome. Photo doesn't show the oil, but might help visualize it.

I'm going to remount the flywheel and run it while we look for oil.

Found it. It was the breather cover in front of the carb.

Glad to hear you found the leak.

Are you saying it was coming from the valve cover? Do you still have the style that requires a gasket?

Default not the valve cover

Not the valve covers, which do have molded gaskets, more like O-rings.

The breather cover is in the center of the vee, in front of the carburetor. It has an oil sensor screwed into it, and is held down by four bolts. Roughly rectangular.
The Kohler manual said to use silicone on one side only, which I did. It leaked. Now it's sealed with Aviation Permatex. I don't think it will leak anymore.

Gotcha, I know you said breather cover in front of the carb, I just couldn't visualize that and was only thinking about my old style valve covers that were prone to leaking.

Glad you got it fixed and one more step closer to getting your 1864 going.

Keep us posted on your progress, I'm particularly interested since I have an 1864 too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
