Has anyone figured out how to get the hydro filter off 1864 without pulling the deck?

Have you tried oil filter band wrenches?

A "big" pair of Channel Lock Pliers.

You are gonna make a big mess if full of hydro fluid. the fluid will run out when the filter is removed. Much easier to catch fluid with the deck removed

Leave the deck on, only about 12 ounces of oil will run out of the filter.
It will coat the deck with oil, keeping it from rusting.
Also it will attract debris which will keep the paint from fading while setting outside on sunny days!

Thank you everyone for your replies. Seeing how the book states to remove hydro filter, remove deck. But seeing how I am old and decrypted it is a hassle for me to pull/replace the 54'' deck. But guess what I am going to it do it anyhow.

I have done it, put a cake pan under the filter and you gotta be fast.

I don't know anything about decrypted,
but to be old, decrepid, AND fast,
isn't that an oxymoron?

I stated that I am old and decryted, because I could not remember how to spell decrepid.
