Kohler Command Rebuild
My 18 hp Kohler Command is smoking so bad I can't stand to drive the tractor. I've looked on line for a shop to rebuild it or sell me a rebuilt unit but no luck. Do any of you know where I can get this done or buy a rebuilt. I bought this tractor, a 2185 new in 94 and it's been a rock solid workhorse all these years so I'd really like to keep it going. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked for a blown head gasket? Blow by? Compression test?

No I haven't. Oddly enough, the engine runs good, pulls whatever implement I hook onto, but just keeps me in a blue cloud of oil smoke. I'll try to come up with a compression tester. With that in mind anyone know what kind of compression a tight Command 18 would have?

I think the free service manual from Kohler Engines tells what it should be .

I'd bet, it just needs head gaskets.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
