Default 682 electrical diagnosis help needed-again

It started fine last year when you turned the key, this year it does nothing when you turn the key. The only way it will turn over and start is by jumping the solenoid. Here is what I've done so far---The connector plug at the key switch was melted at the spade that goes to the solenoid, both the male and female were badly corroded so I replaced the switch, spade connectors and plastic plug---no luck, still won't turn over with the key---replaced the solenoid today, no luck again, still won't turn over with the key Is there a way to test or bypass the pto clutch switch and/or the safety switches so I can fix whatever the problem is without guessing? Thanks for any help and suggestions.

I was wrong it does not start when you jump the solenoid, only turns engine over. I founds R.Bedell's wiring diagrams on google, thank you Roland. I am going to run a jumper between the S terminal at the switch to the little terminal at the solenoid and see what that does. By the way the serial # is 729425 ccc built.

I ran a jumper wire from the "S" terminal to the little post on the solenoid and turned the key---the starter turns the motor over---I think that leaves the brake switch or the pto switch as the culprit. I didn't try to start the engine yet. With the brake pedal in the locked position wouldn't that rule out the brake switch?

Your problem areas are:
* PTO Switch
* Brake Neutral Switch
* Bad Wiring between the "S" terminal on Ignition Switch to the Solenoid Coil.

With the jumper from key switch to little lug on solenoid, you bypassed the brake switch.... so for now, the brake is still a possible culprit and you can't rule it out. Roland listed the likely problem areas you should investigate.

I jumped the two red wires at the pto switch and she started right up!! Ordered a new switch. Thanks again R. Bedell, studying your wiring diagram made things easy. - Tom

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
