Default 1864 updated PTO Command to Command Pro

Hi, I'm new here. I did look to see if I could figure this out but could not find any information.

I have a 1864 with a Kohler CH18 command engine S/N 859698. From S/N 836,000 to 880,000 the PTO was a P/N 717-3340 and the S/N 880,000 to 899,000 was a P/N 917-04180. I think that I can swap to the newer one but don't know. The newer PTO mounts with what looks like a post to keep it located. Not a backing plate like the old one.The newer type looks like it is sealed unit also and is cheaper replace.

Now to get down to it. I am putting a brand new Kohler CH620-3103 in it. On the old motor the mounting surface for PTO is flat all the way to the crankshaft seal. The new motor the surface has a .400 in. step where the old PTO would mount. Keeping The PTO from going all the back on the crankshaft. If I get the newer type PTO S/N 880,000 to 899,000 will it fit with the step on the new engine with the proper pulley location. I hope I explained it it so people can understand it.

I do not know, but I would call the clutch manufacture and give them the spec # and see if they know.
There is a stud/stop that bolts to the motor, Cub Cadet sells them, or the clutch place may also.

The 1864 rolled out of the Factory with a Kohler CH18-62509 engine in it. The "62509" is NLA from either Cub Cadet nor Kohler.

According to the Kohler Web Site, the proper replacement for the above is CH620-64509 engine.

The CH620-3103 is/was an engine used for generic replacements.

Pretty sure it will fit. I did a repower with the Kohler with the extended lugs a couple years ago and I just cut them off with a sawzall.

This motor has a 1.125" buy 4.0" output shaft but the price was wright $1300.00 shipped. I have thought about cutting it off like you said but I am doing this for a buddy and cutting up his new motor??? I'm thinking if the newer PTO has a stud it would make no difference. Can make a cone to take up the shaft length. Think we will just order one and make it work.

He is going to use this 1864 for a snowblower 551. The town he lives in does not clean the ally he uses very well. But if someone knows if it will work I would appreciate the information.

You will also need the spacer which goes on the crank behind the PTO, (911-3396 according to partstree.)

Since I'm not visualize the raised area which you are talking about exactly, will the area affect how the stud mounts depth-wise? There may need to be a modification done to the stud.

The PTO needed should be the same one which I installed on my 2185 last year, I got it direct from xtremeope.com for best price and quick shipping.
