Hello from Pittsburgh
Below are my two cubs. A 1000 and a newly acquired 1650.
Both are well worn workhorses and both are in need of a little TLC to get them rebooted for another 20 years of work! I'll have a lot of questions for you guys in the coming months. To do list: - 1650 exhaust is too LOUD - 1650 slows to crawl up hills - 1650 ign switch replacement - 1650 engine rebuild / smokes / backfires on startup - 1650 tail lights - 1650 tires - 1000 steering sloppy - 1000 mower deck rear wheel mount weld broke - 1000 carb adjustment / general tune-up - Bill |

Thank you.
I left off replacing the shot motor mounts from my 1650 to do list. |

Why waste the time replacing the motor mounts, if you think the engine needs rebuilt?
How much oil is it burning? The backfire likely is not indicative of it needing rebuilt. More than likely it needs carb and ignition work. |

Welcome to OCC. Looks like you're going to busy with that 1650.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
