Hello,
After a few weeks of looking at this forum I decided it was best to join and become active in it. The other week, I picked up my first cub cadet; an 1810 that I got at a family friend’s estate sale (for a whopping $25!). I couldn’t even hesitate with the price as my grandfather, who owns a service station, had been servicing the mower since new and even I can remember servicing it before the friends health started declining. After bringing it home and a little gas and carb cleaner it fired right up and runs smooth as a song. I have heard of people converting the 1810’s to 1811’s or 1812’s so that may be the direction I lead it, depending on the workload that involves. Look forward to meeting everyone and gaining more knowledge in the cub cadets! |

Congrats on the new tractor and welcome to OCC! To covert to hydraulic lift you will need a ported pump and a bunch of other parts, what do you plan to do with this tractor and would you even need hydraulic lift?

The more I’ve thought about it I may not end up going that route. I noticed the rear end is aluminum so (this is just me guessing) it would put some unwanted strain on it if anything severe was done working the cub other than mowing the lawn.

That's not true at all. That rearend will take all the abuse you can give it.

I know it would be nice to use in the lowlands by my pond or using it on our garden. I’m switching off between my Farmall A or Farmall F-12 on the garden now but it is a little bit overkill given the size of our garden

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
