Years ago I worked as a groundskeeper for a subdivision. They had a 670 Deere compact tractor. I had to rip up some ground to reseed it. All I had was a box blade. I shortened the centerline all it would go and dropped the teeth down all the way and put it in 4wd. Worked well, even ripped the phone line up to the club house, but it was literally buried a 1" deep. The one thing you can't scale in miniature tillage tools is ground clearance. Unless you are running in clean land, the weeds are still the same height, regardless if you are using a lawn mower or a farm tractor. We have trouble choking up chisel plows here in heavy weeds/trash. We used to run this in front of all our double crop beans behind wheat, but we baled the straw. If there was a busted bale or a very weedy section we had to deal with it choking up (not too often but it could happen). We were running fairly shallow for beans. Fall and spring tillage saw a bigger tractor and much deeper--but the fields were cleaner as well.

The second pic J-Mech shows is what I was talking about. Then put twisted shovels on the shanks and go to town. Gonna take some weight and hp to pull it though.

The guy that built that claims the Deere will pull it.... but I couldn't find any tillage pics, nor did he say how deep. I believe him though as he has other implements he made. I will say, that generally our little tractors run out of traction before they power out. An 18hp tractor would pull it with enough weight. Probably in the neighborhood of 3-4" deep would be my SWAG. Maybe not an XT tractor though.... I need to build one. Looks great! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
