D,
Hummmmm Red? I like how you think!
I have joined the antiquetractors forum and can be found several days a week on that site talking about my big tractor toy. Seems I do have a tractor problem
Hope things are good in cub land! Hope to see some OCC Cub folks at the Wayne Ohio show or the Sagertown show.
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Was reading the post from another member designing a 4x4 unit. Checked this out thread of mine and was surprised it had 4,000+ views. Ok so I am not doing anything with my 4x4 project right now the parts have been moved from the garage where they set for months. In it place is a bigger tractor project, A Allis WD 1950 that has been in the family since 1951 I think. It will be my project for the next year.
Anyway it seems there is a real need for one of the OCC forum members to really document/design a good set of plans and bill of materials need to build a 4x4 Cub that is bullet proof and that even I could follow the plans and build it in my garage. Total cost goal $2000 with 100-200 hours of labor.
Something like this:
Purchase two Cubs or parts of cubs
1. 1450 or 1650 WF 4x4
2. 127 + 127 NF 4x4
2.a. Several cases of beer
2.b may have a engine preference? (bigger may be better)??
2.c ported hydro may be a must have to run the pivot stereing cyl.
2.d power steering may be a must to drive the articulation cylinder?
3. basic parts list with part numbers or source
3.a cylinders, steering
3.b hoses
3.c fasteners
3.d u-joints/ drive line
3.e joints to articulate
3.f steel cut list
3.g. Wheels and tire options, single/ duels
4. Basic fab details/ CAD models with dimensions
4.a jigs or aids to build components
4.b check points dimensions/ details
5. Pictures/ description of build sequence.
5.a. where to cut the donor cubs at.
5.b. lay out of frame and weldments
5.c machining work required.
5.d Engine set up/ mounting
6. System trials and trouble shooting
6.a Engine
6.b Front drive line
6.c rear drive line
6.d steering trial
6.e brakes

7. Cosmetics/ nice to haves
7.a ?????

Just some thoughts on 4x4 Cubs from a grumpy old man
Regards,
Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
