If I came across as shaming that wasn't the intent...it's the way I see the situation. I would much rather put some time and money into a quality machine than a lot more money into a new machine that won't last as long
Just about all my power equipment I own is at least 30 years old, most of it older. Much of what I use was given to me or sold cheap because it was "worn out." I have a Lickety Log Splitter from the late 1960s that I was asked to haul to the dump because it had a thrown rod. I rebuilt the k181 on it and used it for 15 years to split wood to heat my house. It's all how how you look at things. That splitter was worthless junk to the PO when they asked me to haul it off. I brought the Kohler engine back to life and replaced all the o rings for a lot less than a new splitter would cost me and I have a better machine than I can buy new. Your tractor is the same way. If you put some time and money in it you'll have a quality machine that will serve you for decades to come. If you do the work yourself you'll know that machine better than anyone f anything goes wrong down the road. |

I feel the same way. That is why my newest Cub Cadet is at least 30 years old. I have rebuilt and repaired or re-powered most of them and they all start and run like new. Last year I rebuilt, painted and re-powered a clapped out 1872 that I was going to use for parts. It now has triple hydraulics, 3 point hitch new ag tires and a EFI 28 HP Command engine. It looks and drives like new and I am sure that my grand kids will be using it when I am gone. Some people thought I was crazy for spending almost $4,000.00 to go through it but what can you buy new today that will compare to it. I say fix the Snowblower you have, do it right and it will still be blowing snow 30 years from now. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
