He said "Don't contact me if you don't want to pay $1150" well I won't be contacting him. Thing looks like it was put together with left over parts.

Not my tractor but I spoke with the guy who owns it. It's a true IH 982 with some desirable options, I wanted to pass it along.

Well.... the tag on the frame is anyway. But I'm pretty sure they didn't roll out of the factory painted with a white hood, yellow fenders, and everything else red. Nor did they sell them with those rear tires, those front tires, or missing a lift arm. It also has a 50" deck, not a 54". Pretty sure this guy pieced it together, like Sam said. Oh yes... the tag is definitely IH. If it runs, it's probably not a bad price. But I'd still be shy of it.

Is that a hole in the frame on the left side....maybe one on the right too, or maybe it just looks that way?

That is one of the last 982's built being made in February 1981.

Not sure if I ever heard how many 982's were made.

Not too bad of a price if you're looking for a 982.

Not sure why everybody has such an issue with this tractor? All the parts are red except two. When I look at it I see a tractor that's had two body panels replaced (not uncommon) and the tires replaced (also not uncommon), I definitely don't see a tractor that was built with leftover parts.

Agreed. Seems a little hippocrtical considering the prices that some are asking/have asked for their stuff. Long live the Viking!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
