Hello everyone. I've been coming to this site for answers to a lot of my questions about Cub Cadet's and I've been able to find all of them up to this point, so I thought it was time that I joined the site. I started collecting older mowers about 4 years ago. Started with a 1971 Cub Cadet 128, then a 1968 Wheel Horse Commando 8 and my latest is a 1970 Cub Cadet 127. I'm doing a complete rebuild to the 127 and I'm putting it back together right now. I took the hydrostatic transmission apart just to make sure everything was good and clean. I put it back together and it's really hard to turn now (can't turn it by hand but I can when I put a phillips in the roll pin hole in the shaft. I've had it apart 3 times and everything looks right. Are they supposed to be that hard to turn? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sounds like something not put back together right, and some binding is occurring.

Yae, thanks for posting the manual. I've been using the 127 service manual but the one you posted definitely has some good info in it. I guess I'll take it apart again tonight when I get home. Thanks for all the info.

Hello everyone. Sorry I didn't post sooner. Good and bad news. I took the trans back apart and put it back together and no binding up. The only bad news is that I have no idea what I did differently. I'm adding some photos as well.

First photo is when I bought it from the scrap yard (150.00). Second photo is after a little work and cleaning up. Last one is where I'm at now in the rebuild.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
