Default Tie Rod Ends

Has anyone ever tried swapping the factory tie rod ends out for an aviation style Hiem joint (tie rod)? I have a few like the one pictured below with the proper thread size, and was tempted to try them on my 127 or 1211, but thought I'd get some opinions first.

that was a fix in the website www.cubfaq.com it was to help give "super steer" there was also a part where you ended up adding actual hubs to the front

Yes, I used them when I built the lightweight tube axle for my puller. If you have access to them and you don't mind that there not the same as original go for it. They should be as good or better than the stock ones.

Thanks Randy, I'm looking for function and durability over authenticity. Doesn't seem like the factory ends last very long. I replaced a set on my 1211 a couple years back, and they are shot already. Hopefully these will fare better, as long as I keep them clean. The stock ones don't seem servicable either.

thanks,

Jeff,

I have never actually installed any of them myself but have bought a couple of tractors that had them already, they seem to be very strong and they look like they would/will take a LOT of abuse. I think they are a little spendy but I would bet that they will last a lot longer than factory ones.

www.mcmaster.com part # 60645K441

Cheaper than the OEM tie rod ends, and will wear out long before they fail when you're out mowing the grass that's a foot tall and there's rain in the forecast for the next week.

Thanks Matt, Those are the exact same ones that I have. A friend of mine who is an aviation mechanic gave me a handfull of them a few years back, before I had my cubs....I knew I was saving them for a reason :biggrin2.gif:

I would think they would work just fine. Being involved in Aviation I can tell you that your friend saved you a ton of money if those were aviation rated. Nothing that is installed in an aircraft is cheap. Nothing! Toilet paper excluded

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
