A coil for an older 70s VW air-cooled boxer engine also has an internal resistor and works on a Kohler.

Rhoderman,
When you say "that thing" got hot, are you referring to the engine or the coil? |

The coil. It got hot when the engine was running. If I accidentally left the key on w/o it running (and points were closed) for only a minute, it would get too hot to touch!
I was kind of amused since the seller made a point of telling me it was the correct coil for it... |

Rhoderman,
Thanks for clearing that up for me, I thought that's what you meant. The second time I read it I thought, wait a minute is he rebuilding the engine because "it" got hot??? Guess that's what gettin old will do for ya. |

I purchased the coil at O-Riley's for $37.00. The box is out in the shop but all I did was ask for a coil with an internal resistor and 12 volt. The coil says right on it " no resistor needed ". I am now converting one of my Simplicity Tractors over to 12v ignition with the same coil. I'm going to look around at some of the auto parts places to see what they get for their coils. I like the coil ignition systems as they are much easier to trouble shoot.

Thanks Chris! That's along the same price for the super blue coil everyone raves about. They go by Checker Auto Parts here instead of O'Rileys. I like Autozone better, and Napa best.

Napa does have some good stuff and they get their share of my wallet. I really don't know how I ended up at O-Riley's. Must have been going by there.
I just finished converting my Simxxxcity Briggs. over to a Kohler type ignition and does it run nice now. Very hot spark and it idles like a Timex. Really improved the starting also. Chris |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
