If your tractor was built (yours isn't) before November 1st it had an aluminum rear but from then on they were cast iron.

The 3000 series were sold as a true garden tractor capable of doing ground engaging work. All the attachments were shaft driven and the 40" hydro tillers are awesome they say. I don't know because I've been looking for one for 5 years now and can't find one.

IMHO they are not as heavy duty as the machines before them but there are also a lot of improvements they made over the ones prior. Once I got the hang of using the foot controlled hydro for mowing I haven't mowed with an older machine.
The 3206 has the locking rear which uses 1 1/8" axles verses the 3204's 1" rear axles. The larger axles also have heavier duty hubs and a slightly wider housing also.

Default Cc 3240

I just mowed 2 acres with my CCC 3240. I thought all CCC tractors were JUNK until my neighbor's mother wanted rid of this one. Well, after seeing how much she paid to have it repaired at the CASE/IH dealership I can see why she wanted it GONE ! After doing my own maintenance on it I must say that I LOVE the 40th Anniversary 3240 ! It has power steering, tilt wheel, comfortable seat and adjustable seat with foot petals. Still LOVE all my IH Cub Cadets, but this one is my preferred mower.
Built in Feb of 2001, I would like to know what total production was for this model. They were expensive; $6000. Only ones that came with chrome hub caps for the 3000 series.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
