None of them ever turned on the high temp warning light. I would hate to know what temp it takes to turn on the light. My conclusion is that the cooling system is inadequate. I suggest that any of you guys with 2182's or 1782's install temp gauges and keep an eye on them. As for me I no longer own a Cub water pumper. I've gone air cooled, if it's not there it can't cause a problem.
I agree. On a 90 degree day mine would creep up to 210, which isn't overheating, but for a water cooled engine, I expected it to run cooler. I would have thought it wouldn't get over 180. My expectations were water cooled would run cooler than an air cooled, and would last longer. Maybe that's expecting too much, but I agree the cooling system doesn't seem to be very robust.

You know.. I've never checked and I will tomorrow but I think a 12 hp air cooled.head temp is over 200. 180 is pretty cool for a small diesel like that on a 90 degree day. 200 up to 210 is pretty cool considering the ventilation and ambient temp

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
