Default Wide frame head light bezel question

On my 149 both screws that hold the head light retaining ring in are broken off. What are the chances that they could be drilled out and retapped for a bigger size? Any suggestions an repair? Also the ring is missing, anyone have any luck gabbing a new one? I removed the bezel from the hood last night and am not a fan of the big hole in the front!

Exactly the same issue happened on my 169, both screws were seized in the bezel from corrosion and snapped off. I drilled them out with a #21 sized bit, and retapped 10-32 threads. Then with a drop of blue medium strength loctite I screwed in a 2" long stainless steel threaded rod, and wing nuts. Good as new ever since. Before reassembly though I cleaned all the parts on a polishing wheel.

Sorry that this is not related to your question that you asked, but man....what size tires are you running on the front of your cub? Seems like your steering would be quite limited, not to mention the surface area tension of the tires making it harder to steer.

I don’t remember what size they are off the top of my head but yes they are way to big. They were free and hold air, the ones on it when I drug this thing out of the weeds came apart as soon as I put air to them. So did the the rears.

If it had the deck on it steering would be impossible, your right. They just barely rub in the frame at full lock with out the deck. Temporary solution.

Thanks that answered the question perfectly. Now to just find a single headlight retaining ring for sale somewhere.

I think that someone in Ohio might make them and sell them EBAY. You might have a look and if so, then contact him and see if he will sell just one of them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
