Default Linamar 20 HP

I have a 2072 with a 20 HP Linamar engine in it which is basically an Onan. I'm having trouble with it acting like it's running out of fuel. It will start & run for a few seconds then act like it's gonna die. I can play with the choke & keep it running but open choke it dies & full closed choke it dies. I'm thinking the fuel pump maybe going bad. Any suggestions?

Pull the fuel tank, clean it, clean or replace the fuel shut off valve, replace all the fuel lines from the tank all the way to the carb, new fuel filter, rebuild the carb and the fuel pump. Your dealing with a 30 year old tractor time to give it some TLC. Also check the intake manifold, as I understand it they are made in 2 pieces and sometimes develop a leak allowing them to suck air that causes running problems.

Didn't know about the 2 piece manifold, I'll look into that.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
