Default Risk in boring a K321A?

I took my block in to the machine shop and was told it wouldn't be worth the cost to have it rebored, as they've seen a high rate of cracking. The guy seemed to knowledgeable, but I'm also concerned he doesn't want the hassle. He advised I just get a new block. 1. Do I tell him go ahead and bore it and accept the risk? 2. Any advice on where to get a replacement block? I emailed Cub Classics sponsor to see if he had any on hand, but haven't heard back yet.

I would find another machine shop providing it is only being bore up to .030 over. He doesn't want to mess small engines.

I agree with merk, it just sounds like an excuse to get out of doing it.

did the engine ever throw a rod? if it did you have to look the starter side of the block over real close and at the bottom of the cyl where they break a chunk out. sometimes a crack extends out of that area up to the into the cyl.
the only other spots I've seen them crack is on the head gasket area towards the PTO end of the crank. they like to blow the head gasket in that area and for some reason the 14 block cracks there pretty easy. I've also seen the 14 block crack at the cylinder the 3rd cooling fin down. You can usually see the cracks so just look it over close

Default risk n boring a K321

I had just gone through the same thing getting my block done. The Mach shop I have always had do my work did not really want to deal with it. They have gotten rid of the older boring machines to make room for the new and improved equipment. it is as much of a hassle for them to set up for one as it is to do 6 or 8 cylinders.
I had to go all the way out to 40 over due to the damage done by overheating and crud. looked more like a bee hive.
good luck with your build make sure you know what age your block is , according to parts guy there are different size valves from early to late model K 321 just make sure buyer beware ..know exactly what you need. These guys know in this group. It's what they DO..

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
