This is the driveshaft from an 1862 I picked up recently. I got the engine running, and noticed a vibration from the drive line area. I pulled the tunnel cover off and found the driveshaft hanging on to the input shaft of the charge pump by a thread! There is a hose clamp around the shaft, holding pressure against a big washer which I guess is supposed to hold the CV joint in place so it reaches the input shaft? I don't know. But this picture was taken after I removed about a half of a mile length of electrical tape that was wrapped around it to further reinforce this stupidity! That hydro plumbing is no laughing matter either...

This idea has been brought up in the past, we won’t mention who but I’m glad it has finally come to fruition. I have several pics of some good ones but afraid that they will be sideways or upside down. It is truly amazing what some have done to these poor machines over their lives. Keep the pics coming!

Well, I don't think Sorner's original entry will be beat, but I'll play anyway. Here is the battery hold down on my 2284. It's on the rod that tightens the mule drive belt.

Is this what happens when someone takes something completely apart and then puts it back together and has extra pieces?

Thanks for the offer Sam, I have a bunch of tubes in my POP (Pile of Parts).

You know, I was so dumbfounded by the driveshaft setup that I didn't even notice the plumbing mod right away?!

I haven't really gotten into the red 682 yet that I got from the same seller, but at quick glance it has no brakes.. at all. The disks are gone, there are no calipers or linkages. It has a pedal though, that is about it.

The 682 probably has internal brakes which would explain the lack of caliper's or rotors.

Take your pick here
IIRC these were all on the same machine.
Best part of this $75 Cub 128 was hiding under the belly pan which was crammed/wedged between the fender pan and the tower. I did not even notice 'til the next day after I got home!
I have no idea as to what that tiny Kohler fits, sure as hell ain't this tractor
The last picture, the pin had been pulled towards the front and the rear of the pin was not even in the rear bushing, just rubbing on the underside of the 'C' channel
We need a "Custom by Cobblecraft" Hall of fame...er shame!!

The muffler is bigger than the engine!

So here’s what happened. The PO has the driveshaft in backwards, and did not have the bolt in the center that holds the coupler to the input shaft of the charge pump.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
