I have no issues with my 48” deck, except a trail of cut grass between the #1 and #2 blades because my baffles are missing. They offer two different blades for the deck. Which ones do you have?

If you really want to try non O.E.M. blades, get the length, width, thickness and center hole size and go shopping.
There are likely other brands of mowers using the same sizes. |

That’s what I did. I bought hi-lift Stens blades. They didn’t have the exact dimensions though. If I remember correctly, I found a center blade the right length and width but the center hole was 5/8” and I had to open it up to 3/4”. The outer blades I found had the 3/4” center hole but were about 3/8” too long. A Bridgeport mill and a carbide endmill made them fit.

I was having the same problem with my 44c deck on a 782. I installed Meg-Mo blades last week and HOLY COW!!!! It’s like a different mower. It has suction, it chops the grass into small pieces and throws them 4 feet. I can drive faster and do a better job of mowing. They are kinda spendy compared to OEM blades, but they will make your mower perform

I do have the 48” deck on my 129. I’ll see if I can find the part numbers.

I didn’t find my receipt to figure out what blades I bought. After a little searching on the Stens site, I found blades that will work with some slight modifications. The OEM Cub blades are spec’d at 17.66” center and 16.03” outer.
Part #325-179 is 18” w/ a 3/4” hole. The length would need trimmed. Part #330-356 is 16” w/ an 11/16” hole. The hole would need opened up to 3/4”.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
