New guy from Idaho
Hey all.
Have been a member for a bit but never posted before. A few years back I had a Cub Cadet with a snow thrower attachment given to me. It has mostly been sitting since I got it and it runs but needs some work. I believe it is a 1450 but am new to this and have no idea on the age of it. I could use some help on making sure I am researching the right model so that I can get it where it is earning its storage space. The serial number is 2050660U55976 3* . Not sure what the "3*" indicates. Also, just out of curiosity am I the only Cub Cadet owner in the rocky mountain region? All of you seem to be from Ohio, Indiana or Illinois. Nothing against any of those places just wondering if I'm all alone out here. Glad to be making my first of what I'm sure what will be many posts. |

Looks like a June of 1975, 1450.
The date of manufacture is of little consequence when it comes to buying parts, there were only subtle changes made to these tractors during the production run of each series.

Yosemite Sam,
I appreciate your response. I wanted to get a copy of any pertinent literature on it and the snow thrower. It is a 42" wide single stage and operates but has some parts and pieces missing. It also doesn't have much ground clearance when in the up position and the chute clogs but I imagine I can probably remedy those problems if I get the manuals. I did notice that there are nuts welded inside the frame where the top of the attachment slides on to the bolts but the welds have broken and will need to be re-welded. The tractor seems to be a solidly built piece of equipment but I'm not familiar enough with these to know if this is a good model or what kind of engine it has yet. Is there a spot on here that has manuals to download? Thank you, Casey |

Welcome!! Yes many of us are flatlanders. Where I live in PA though we don't have much flat land. It is all mountains actually ridges in our area. Much the same as you but we still have oxygen at the top. Lol. I believe there are downloadable manuals in our tech section. I am also sure that someone will chime in about needing pictures so I will not mention it. There is a wealth of knowledge both on this site and within the membership. Since you are from Idaho do not bother looking for a potato digger for your machine none were made.

Welcome to OCC. Don't know about being the only guy in your neck of the woods but I have decided that there is no grass to mow west of the Mississippi River. We seem to only have a handful of members from the west.

You guys are awesome. Got the 1450 running and pulled into the garage last night and pulled the snow thrower off of it. I will definitely be needing the information in these manuals during my assessment. Already decided to get rid of the turf tires and chains and purchase some Ag tires. Would love to get a mower deck for it for the summer but right now concerned with getting the thrower up and running. We've had an uncharacteristic amount of snow this year. Does anyone have any good pictures of what the hitch bolt should look like where attached? Mine are both broken off. It seems as though there was a nut welded to the inside of the frame on one side. I will get pics. on here as soon as I get further into it and I figure out how to put the pictures in a message. When I click on the "insert image" button it asks for a url.
Getting more excited already. Thanks again to all of you for all of your help. |

By the weather report, looks like you are getting more snow. Good luck, get the snow blower working.

Overdue Pics
Hey Everyone,
Sorry it took me so long to get some pics. on here, I have been crazy busy at work. The weather here in southeast Idaho as forced me to take some time to move snow as well though. Luckily I have been able to use my tractor instead of a shovel. Attached (hopefully) is a picture of it. I haven't had time to do much with it besides fix the thrower, install a new battery and a new seat, but it runs and throws snow (not bad for a free CC and about $100 in seat and hardware). The seat is not the original style but it is adjustable and gives me more leg room which is nice. The other picture is of the hinge part of the hood. It is cracked in the corner like that on both sides and I was wondering if anyone has had luck welding these or if I need to get a new one. Another problem I am having is that once I have been moving snow for a while the PTO doesn't like to re-engage. Is this most likely an electrical issue (not enough volts) or the air gap needing adjusted? I will try to get some action shots of it tonight. Shouldn't be a problem since the snow doesn't seem like it is ever going to stop this year. Running out of places to put it. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
