Congrats on a great looking 149. Neat that you was able to buy it from the original owner who took really good care of it. The 1X8-9 series were in my book the tractor that IH should have painted red and white. Good looking machines.

I agree. With all the people out there who abuse these machines, it's nice to hear of a man who took care of what he had. Since he was about 5 years old when the Great Depression hit and spent his formative years living through it, no doubt he knew how to be thrifty and take care of what you have.

Don't think you got beat up on the price either. Congrats on the 149.

Nooooooo! I often thought that IH made a big marketing mistake when they launched the red 82 series. I wonder what that did to sales to all the brand loyal CC customers? Did that contribute to the sale/spin off to CCC? They (CCC and MTD) abandoned that color scheme and have been yellow/white ever since. Kind of like the "new Coke" fiasco, I think.

As for the 149, that's a great looking tractor. Got to be one of the most popular CCs.

If that is the way you feel i have to ask why you restored and painted a 1X9 to look like a 66 series big tractor???? By the way I really like that tractor and hope to do one like it some day.

Default 3rd 149

Thanks for all the replys. Called the man that I bought it from. Wasn't home but talked to his Daughter. Asked if He may have any Manuals that came with it or any bills for repairs and such. Said she would check with her Dad and call me back. Was looking at the deck that came with it. The tag says "501". Is that just a regular 50 " deck? I need a belt for it from the PTO to the deck spindle. Have a great day.

It's not that I don't like the red tractors, it's just my hypothesis that this was a factor in CC's demise as an IH product. My 1x9 is actually a 148.. Which IH never built anyway.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
