Looks good to me as well. Agree on getting the parts into the sunlight alongside the yellow. Keep in mind that the whites have been bleaching out for the past 50-odd years. The '72 Cub 147 I just picked up is in original paint and just looks plain bright white instead of the more colorful 935, so it kind of throws you off as to the correct color.

The good news is, a color change is easy at this point. Wet sand it, shoot it and you'll have some nice heavy coverage. One other thing, I made the mistake of over-restoring my first 147. I went to the auto paint store and had them mix up the perfect IH yellow in the fanciest paint. Doesn't work right on a tractor, mainly because it chips and inevitable scrapes are much harder to hide with touchup. If a fella wanted to put a Cub back like they were originally, you would hold down the trigger until the paint runs. The factory absolutely poured the yellow on thick and heavy.

Thanks Saturn,
The fact that you said the paint bleaches out, explains everything. It explains why every Cub you see is bright white. Im 40yrs old so ive never actually seen the original color! Thats why this creamy almond 901 paint suprised me so much. I also found a thread where someone sampled some original paint and came up with a 1969 ford color called New Lime. It looks like what ive got. And when I hold my parts up next to the yellow, a lot of the green tinge dissapears. So Im trying to talk myself into it. Ill try to get a decent picture, soon
Thanks everyone
James

Look up old IH ads, those can give you somewhat of an idea. Especially the one here with the guy in the white shirt. Figuring out the actual shades of original colors can be a little difficult. I'm in some scale modeling forums and we are always going round and round about US olive drab and Panzer grey!

Yes, Ive looked at ads online. Id like to look at some actual, print brochures in my hand but most of the stuff on ebay is a tad pricey. Ill find something. But what I have looked at online, the Originals look real creamy. The later narrow frame stuff like my 102, the wheels sometimes look creamy, but it seems to me like the hood and deck are brighter white. Like the ad in the previous post, "Power for all seasons", the wheels have some biege but the deck looks whiter. I know this is a timeless debate. For know Im gonna work on the rest of the tractor and when i bring the fresh panels together we'll look at em again.
Thanks everyone
James

Good plan. If you can find a copy of any of the Oscar Will books, nab it. Some great old photos and interesting reading.

I was going to say, that hood looks really good. I'd go with what you have. IH was making tractors, not luxury cars, so I doubt very much they were OCD about paint color and the color schemes wandered over the years.

You did a nice job on that hood though, good work!

Will did more than one book? I'm going to have to hit the search engine! His cub book is the best.

I've been using Rustoleum rattle cans in Marigold (249862) and Canvas White (7789830) on my (also 1966) 102. My son did his 126 in these colors as well. Neither will probably score 100s in a concours, but we're both happy with the colors and I think they're darn-near perfect without investing a lot in custom mixes and a paint gun

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
