Default 3 - K-321's each has different issue, please help

Happy Easter everyone. I have 3 cub 149s and have been trying to get at least one ready for spring tilling and summer mowing. The first one we got when I was 8 , I'm now 38. The second shortly after and the third I just got a couple weeks ago after trying to get the others running. I need some ad vice on which engine to use. The first always ran great till one day mowing up a hill it started loosing rpm and on the way down it would over rev . Both situations could be compensated for with the throttle. No actual loss of power, I think the governor is broke inside the motor, still ran great otherwise. The second one I've asked about on another thread and got some great responses on what to do with the wallered key way on the crankshaft and basket pulley. I picked up the third hoping it would allow me to slowly work on the other two. It seemed like a great machine until I had a chance to work it with the tiller yesterday. When ever you would start to put a load on it it would make a chirping noise from the motor area. I started inspecting and noticed the head gasket was blown and figured that was the problem. Replaced the gasket and it runs a little better but the chirping is still present . I've spent so much time and more than my allowed budget trying to get a good running 149 . I need some advice. Sorry for such a long post . Just trying to give all info . Wrist pin ? Any help appreciated

One more thing , as far as the first two I don't think they have ever been rebuilt as they've been with us for most of their lives. The third though I noticed while changing the head ,gasket, piston is stamped 10 over

First one probably has a broken governor. Did you try adjusting the control linkage?
Second one...... you have plenty of ideas on in the other thread.
On the one with the chirping noise, did you plane the head? Sounds like it is warped, or had a burnt out spot.

No sir , just replaced head gasket, was in a hurry to finish the garden. Wish I would have paid more attention to cross hatching in cylinder and over all Condition.

I'm headed for the garage in the morning. Trying to get an idea of which to dig into first. I definitely plan to get pics of crankshaft on #2. The jb weld fix is really tempting

Pull it again. I'd say it isn't flat. You'll need a new gasket again now. I do exchange motors if your interested, PM me.

I used the gasket out of the number one tractor which only had about 2hrs on a new metal looking head gasket . But I guess this is a no no. Ok I'll pull it back off and inspect the head and get a new gasket. Could I use the head off one of the others if its bad? Or do they have to be trued to each other first? Thanks for all your help. Will be interested in your service some day. But at the moment it seems a little out of my price range .

Yes, you can use one of the other heads. No, they aren't fitted to a specific motor. Just plane it before you use it. You can get a head gasket at your local O'Reilly's Part number 7-02403 for like $10.

How do I plane it? Machine shop ? And do you have any rebuilt 14s for the swap ?

You can plane it by laying a sheet of sandpaper on a piece of glass. I use 150 grit to get it flat, and 400 to finish. Or, take it to a engine machine shop. If they have a belt planer it doesn't take long and usually pretty minimum cost.

I don't have any 14's ready to go, but do have at least one rebuildable unit I can pull and go through. The only K series I don't have at all right now is a 16hp (K341).
