They might as well go find some donuts to eat. He's planning on using Vtwin briggs to repower and paint them Red and use aftermarket bolts.

I think you'd not need to remove any material. At the risk of violating the Correct Police :-) , a small clearance hole to provide say a #10 machine screw which would hold a rubber donut parallel to the tab you have highlighted to keep the hood from rattling and scratching away the inside of your pretty new hood. Leaving it a little loose allows the rubber donut to move a bit but dampen the hood rattle.
My .02 John PS: Glad to share what little I know about the trans stuff...it isn't much but I haven't broken anything yet! :-)

I got to look them over at RNPD, nice set of tractors! The early 61 with the thin axle was in sweet shape! Course I liked the other one with the rear PTO too

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
