Ok... so, hang on. Your 1450 has a 20hp Vanguard in it? That would certainly have enough power. But your big issue is the clutch and belt, and whether you can get the belt on the PTO, and through the "mule" pulleys on the 450 and keep it aligned. The QL tractors PTO was just a bit further back, as I recall, than the later '82 series (and up) tractors. The weight of the tractor really isn't important. With that engine, the weight is the same, or very close to the same as an 82 styled tractor. Perhaps even a bit more due to the larger frame and cast iron nose. The weight issues you are worried about are no different on your machine than any other machine out there. The weight isn't an issue..... the drive is. I think there was a guy on here who put one on a QL tractor..... but don't recall what all was done. I'll go see if I can find the thread. I don't recall that it was a terrible amount of modification, but I don't know what you are capable of doing, or what tools you have. |

450 / 1450
j mech ...
that write up would be most helpful / interesting . while I no longer have fab equipment / welders in my garage any longer .... I do / have worked with a place down the road if I dream it up .... the alignment and position of the pulleys thru the mule ... would need to have the 450 sitting in front of me .... sounds like this is an unusual application for the 1450 ? tks for the input B. |

I found the thread. Only one that I can recall ever doing it. He claims it worked with the stock set up, but he's the only one who I've ever heard of saying it did. Interesting. You would think if this was the case, more people would be doing it. He does mention that with the stock 16hp the PTO was about 1.5" further back, but claims the alignment wasn't as issue. Not much info out of him. He hasn't been on the site for over a year, but you might PM him and get an answer. Be interesting to see what he says. If you do in fact have that 20hp in your tractor, you would be at a big advantage. I have a 450 and it needs all the HP you can give it. I really think it would be a pretty big load for a 14hp. I wouldn't want one on a tractor with less than 18hp, but the K341 was a pretty stout engine. https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ad.php?t=21747 |

1450
back in 2011 I totally rebuilt my 1450 ... installed a 20hp Vanguard ...
the only downside was the smaller fuel tank ... but fuel burn is much less with the v twin ... sounds like I should consider finding a SGT to rebuild for the 450 than adapting to a 1450 like mine ... or consider a QA for the 1450 B. |

Man up. You don't need power steering or a SGT to run a 450. Ran one for years without either. Shoot, put power steering on your 1450. Not that hard a conversion to do. You say you can fabricate..... |

Forget about using a motorcycle helmet.
Get a good snowmobile helmet. Full face with the heated face shield, washable liner, better thermal insulation, etc. |

I though this was all already discussed? Am I thinking of another thread?

You say you can fabricate..... just attempting to talk thru some options with those that have had them, would like to haul correct / little as possible across country. I manned up many decades ago ... got your shorts in a knot perhaps ? B. |

If you want to haul fewer things, sell off what you have, and buy another when you get out there. Otherwise get a trailer ready. Not going to be many, if any, Cubs where you're going. |

Here you go. I think all that really needs to be done is a couple tabs and the lift rod. I used it that way for a full season until I got my 1572. No problems using the 5/8" belt on the 1450, but I don't recall the length.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
