Default New HDS 2155 owner

Just picked up a used HDS 2155 that was a Cub dealer trade. 650 hours on the clock. It had a blown head gasket, which the dealer repaired. This tractor has very little rust on the deck, and almost no rust on the tractor itself. Hydro runs quiet. The only issues are on shutdown, it sometime bangs pretty good. I can see that the clutch pin and the part of the clutch housing that hit it are quite dented. Also, you have to press reverse down as far as possible to get it to move backwards, and it seems to be too slow in reverse. Hopefully this last one is just an adjustment.

Reverse problem is common on this series, some have an adjustable link under the footrest that will help some.

There are plastic bushings that the direction control rides in, 2 on each side, the right wear more because that's where all of the pressure is applied. If you look under the right footrest with the deck down, you'll be able to see where the slop in the linkage is; in the mean time, just hook your foot under the forward pedal and pull back to get a little more reverse.

Since you just picked it up from a dealer, perhaps these issues would be covered under warranty. You might want to look into that before digging into it yourself.

It was as-is, no warranty. Thanks for the tips on the pedal.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
