Mower Deck Rebuild For 782 IH CC
Hello,
I have a 38 inch mower deck that came with the 782, I am rebuilding. The deck is the original and in fair to good shape. I have taken it apart. I am getting ready to have it powder coated. I have taken the most of the deck apart, I spend the money to powder coat it white, I have a few questions: 1. I need to replace all of the pulleys for the deck. Are the pulleys available? 2. I also need to replace the tension spring (belt tension spring). Is the spring available? 3. What is the best method a rusted nut on the tensioner arm. It is rusted pretty badly. It looks like there is more hardware on the bolt than just a nut. this is the bolt that the spring on the tension arm. 4. The Phillips head bolts in the deck are rusted badly. The heads seem to strip easily. How should I remove them? The powder coater said I could leave them and they will protect the threads when powder coating. Thank you. |

Thank you very much. There are 6 Phillips head bolts on the deck that attach the side pulley guards to the deck. They are rusted pretty badly. Here are two pictures. Do you think I could tap them out? I have tried Kroil.
Thank you very much. I learn a lot from this forum. |

I don't know if you have access to a Welding Torch, but I would heat the head of the Phillips screws red hot. Once the cooled down, then try to remove them.

By the looks of that deck shell, if you sand blast it, you will be able to see through it.
. Why do you want to take those out? Looks like the nuts came off w/no issues. Are some of them rusted clean off? Knock 'em out with a hammer and replace them. They are not original, the originals were just 5/16" bolts that were spot welded in place. |

Thank you for the help.
If the mower deck survives the cleaning and powder coating process, I plan to rebuild it. I am using Powder Keg in Gluckstadt, Mississippi to clean and powder coat. All they do is powder coat. I hope it will be in good enough shape to rebuild. Also, where would be the best place for purchasing parts? It looks like I am going to need a new idler arm assembly for a IH 38 inch mower deck that came with a 782. The deck's serial number is U320016U116719. Thank you again for all of the advice. |

If it doesn't survive that's a good opportunity to put the proper 44/50" deck or even a 46" GT.

MTD/Cub Cadet still sells an updated re-engineered part 759-04324B or 703-0118. What was re-engineered is that large pivot bolt is now greaseable in an effort to keep it from seizing up and wearing out.
Now, just the updated pivot bolt is available separately. Part number 738-3005 or 638-04012A.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
