What’s the story on cast iron oil pans?
Did any of the stock K series come with a cast iron oil pan? Mine originally had an aluminum one. We’re the cast iron ones aftermarket?

The cast iron pans are a Kohler piece.
Only place I have seen aluminum pans have been on AQS engines as installed in the Quiet Line Cubs. You will/may have locate one from an earlier K301-341 engine. These engines, as used in many make GT's are not all the same as you will see when you do a search on the Bay. Beware of hidden cracks in a replacement CI pan around bolt holes. Clean well and inspect before installation. Tap very lightly with a small hammer, it should "ring" and not go "thud" |

If a CI pan is cracked, can it be brazed? I'm sure it would take a bunch of cleaning but was just wondering.

Depending on when it was made some replacement engines had aluminum pans. I have a replacement K301 dated 1974 with an aluminum pan.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
