Default Picture of the Week: June 22, 2015

This weeks submission is sent to us by local member Chad from PA. Chad comments "Here is my RED 1980 IH Cub 582 I bought from my friends brother who only used it to cut his garden down at the end of the season. The bottom two pictures are what it looked like before I brought it home. I live in south west PA and have never ever seen a red cub before. (Heard they are easier to find up here but after searching for parts I'm still not a believer of that). Anyway I bought it knowing the engine shut down once it got warm. So I pulled the engine to replace the magneto well the heads were trashed. Then it began I search everywhere for a direct bolt up replacement with no mods even called small engine warehouse nothing. So I got lucky and found one 20 miles away out of the same tractor. Since I have replaced the plugs, magneto, clutch disc and throwout bearing. It runs great no smoke at all. I took the entire tractor apart and down to bare metal painting the frame, rear end, and front suspension/steering axle. Then I was lucky enough to have a friend with his own powder coat shop where I had the entire body, fenders, hood, and etc powder coated. Three months later this is where it is. My plan is to use this as it was built for 35 years ago and start on my 1989 1806 this winter. Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy." Thanks for the submission Chad!!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
