Default Rearend and pump removed

I have a newly acquired 2182 that I'm going though. I have it at the point where the rear-end and pump are about to come out. I think I read somewhere on this forum that the 2182 came with two different pumps.

Can someone tell me what pump this is?

Also this I have no idea the service history on this machine. It does run and drive. It has 1700 hours. What all should I do while its out? Rebuild pump?? I plan on opening up the rear and inspecting it and drilling the return holes. Mine already has a vent. I'm also going to service the brakes, and do an overall cleanup of the machine. Any other suggestions while its down?

Thanks Matt

The Hydro Pump appears (doing my best considering all the oil, grease & dirt on it) should be a Sundstrand 15U Pump.

Do yourself a favor and clean what you can before taking it out and apart.
You do not want to get any crud falling INSIDE and getting into places where you did not even know there were places!!
Power washer comes to mind here.

Probably fix the control arm and plate and maybe replace the springs if out of spec.

I welded mine up and carefully filed them back to spec. My springs were good but I did add a thin shim in each end anyway.

Others will be along to give you some other solutions.

So from your post I gather the known issue is the arm that the spring sits in get misshaped other the years, like your photo. Is this it?

Yes and the plate may be loose on the control arm shaft too, letting it move more than it should. Once you have it cleaned up, it will be obvious if things are loose.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
