My tractors are similar, but not “Super” sized

Removing the filter will allow some fluid to drain. Under the filter is a pipe plug with a square female recess. Use a ratchet or breaker bar inserted into the plug and remove. Be prepared for ~ 6 + quarts to drain

I have changed the hydrostatic fluid probably 3 times in 25 years and many more just filter changes. Last drain was this (2020) spring. Fluid appeared like new. I have never removed the rear cover to clean the differential

OK before you go to the auto parts store and some kid tells you that this is the cross for the Cub filter and gives you an engine oil filter this is the list of filters that will work.

Cub Cadet 923-3014
NAPA 1410
Wix 51410
Fleetgard HF6096
Baldwin BT8486

We have seen time after time the wrong filter installed and then the tractor won't move.

Sam Mac and Roland are right on the filters.
I dont want to assume anything about your tractor so - look at what comes out of the drain - is it clean? even at 25 years it should still be clean and should be able to see through it - catch some in a clear container and inspect it. there should be no rust,water/milkiness or solids/glitter. IF YOU HAVE POOR LOOKING OIL then remove the rear cover(stamped steel cover on the differential) and do a thorough clean and rinse. also get every thing you can out of the hydrostat prior to a refill.
I would like to add that the hytran has served you well for 25 years. I would not cut five or ten dollars off the cost for a different oil. there have been multiple write-ups about the value of Hytran. if you were the type to change the fluid every year or two then I would say use an equivalent. if you change it once every twenty five years then stick with what is proven itself in your own tractor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
