I finally got around to doing the cooling system maintenance on this machine. I flushed all of the old coolant out, replaced the thermostat, t-stat gasket, upper hose, and bypass hose with new OEM Kubota parts. The lower hose appears to have been replaced much more recently than the age of the tractor. I filled it with 50/50 green antifreeze/coolant. I ran it for 25 mins and it never got above 185.

Looks great 17!
I have a 2 questions. 1 -- Is that upper hose from the Kubota RTV? 2 -- What is this bracket on your machine? Either mine are missing, yours was added or Cub changed it in production. 782DHOSES.jpg

The hose is indeed for a Kubota RTV. It is EXACT to the original except the large end, which is easily cut off. I paid $15 for it. Not bad for OEM Kubota.
The bracket is an add on that a previous owner added in an effort to ensure the radiator is supported. I've never seen it on any other Diesel GT.

I finished up the upper hose with an authentic replacement insulation purchased in a 6' length from Home Despot. Fortunately, it was just over $10. The insulation was cut to mimic pics of original unrestored tractors. The ends have adhesive to seal it up. I glued this to the hose using 3M black weatherstrip cement.

Great work! Do you have a part number for the Kubota RTV hose?

I adjusted the valves. None were within the factory specification of .006" Some were too tight, and the rest loose. This was an easy procedure once getting the engine to TDC on cyl. 1. The adjustment is very touchy, so it took some finesse to get the .006" feeler gauge to fit snugly. The engine responded well, but it is still choppy at slow idle.

Thank you. On another forum, there were questions if the insulation would resist the heat radiated off the upper hose. Well, after a few workouts with the engine temp approaching 200F, and subsequent heat soak exceeding that, the insulation has not melted or distorted in any way. I think it is every bit as good if not better than the original material used Kubota/Cub Cadet. I will update further if something changes.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
