Default HDS-2185 and 1864

I have a chance to score an HDS-2185 - not sure of year - looks good shape.

I already have an 1864. These engines look the same...

I need another back up mower...

What does everyone think? Worth it?

2185 is a good mower, the 48" deck give a very nice cut.

I retired mine as an engine donor for another project, it was my primary until then. Whether it's worth it is hard to answer w/o price, if you can get it for the value of a good Command engine , then yes.

Around here they seem to run (list online) in the $6-700 range for good ones.

Thanks everyone...

$400 Canadian - says it runs perfect, never had an issue...

I'm mainly concerned with keeping my 1864 running - that thing is a beast.

This will be a back-up and maybe for donor parts...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
