That's about 2x the service life of a "modern" Lowes Special!

Great haul. Love the look of that Jake. I spent many an hour on a Jacobson greensmower. I think my lower spine still would show the wear and tear from riding that thing for 3.5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

And I'm STILL here. It was supposed to be a week. It's like the movie "The Money Pit"... "two weeks"

Well, I finally made it home. I was stuck in Ohio at my moms doing renovations for 7 weeks! It's kind of nice the coronavirus forced my company into a work from home scenario, because I can pretty much do most of my job from anywhere. Anyway, less of that... and more of this... Here's the haul. First, and most importantly, the Cub Original. It has a rebuilt engine with very little use after the rebuild, but it's been sitting in a shed for 10 years or so. I put gas in it, and it started leaking out of the carb, but I put a battery in it and turned it over (for a while) and it eventually kicked. So I kept at it and it fired right up. Runs a little rough due to the carb issue, I think the float is stuck open. It was stored drained of gas.

I saw a set of fenders and miscellaneous parts pop up in Ohio 10 minutes away so I jumped on that, and went and got them. It was basically the whole tractor in pieces, but it was in pretty bad shape. The fenders looked good though, and I got a box of new seals and rear end bushings and other odds and ends.

A Sears ST/10, not sure if it runs, nor do I know anything else about it.

A Jacobsen Chief, it has a 7hp engine on it. I don't know if it runs, it is missing a carburetor. My 9 year old daughter has claimed it because it's so small.
21-07-08 15-00-46 6034.jpg

The rest of the implements and such that I brought home. (the QA42-A in the mix is mine, and was not brought back from Montana. It just doesn't have a spot in my garage at the moment)

I have plenty of stuff to tinker with for the summer now...

Oh, and in the background of the first picture there's a remote controlled car (Subaru WRX), it has a 2 stroke gas engine in it. That's going to be some fun to play with too.

What a haul!

That O looks pretty darned good. A quick carb cleanup and an oil change , some run time and another oil change and it looks like it could be at work for a few more decades at least. Dunno much about brand X, Y, or Z but I'm glad you were able to get the "O".

Looking forward to your always-interesting repair posts!
John

That is a nice haul, the Chief carburetor has a updraft elbow on the carburetor like this one I had. Looks like you need a bigger garage...

Nice haul, you did good. Don’t know anything about the Jacobsen, but those Sears are decent tractors. I picked up an SS/16 last year which looks similar to that, has a 16 hp Onan twin. The few times I used it it seemed like a nice tractor, but it needs a few repairs before I can really put it to work.

Yeah it's missing the whole carb and breather assembly, and foot rests, and a seat. I'm not sure how available those items are, I haven't looked around yet.

As far as I can tell, the hood being broken at the hinge is the only issue with it. I haven't messed with it, but it has a snow thrower and a mower deck, and possibly a snow plow. I have an Onan B43G sitting on my garage floor, but I don't think it'll fit in the ST...

Yeah, only they probably will still be sitting here beyond the summer, I have so much to catch up on from being away for 9 weeks!

Off topic a bit... It seems like so long ago, but I went right through your area on I-90, and got off at Garrison on US-12, and took some back roads all the way up to Somers MT, through Clearwater. The highlight of that area for me was we had to stop for gas in a little town called Ovando, and it's the smallest town I think I've ever been in. The gas station was the post office, general store, and hotel. It's called Blackfoot Commercial Company & Ovando Inn. I went in to pay for the gas and grabbed a coffee and after talking to the man (I assume the owner) and telling him where we're from and where we're heading, he looked at the clock and said well it's your lucky day, anyone who fills up gas after 4:30PM gets their coffee on the house. That was fun. We live in the country here in PA, but some areas out that way, Wyoming especially, felt like we were driving on Mars.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
