Default deck

One of the things I did last year was strip the deck down to the shell. All the pieces were rusted pretty badly, but the shell itself is sound. I'm going to seal the underside with POR (?), clean up the top a bit and paint it.

That 1863 I bought for parts actually came with all the pieces from its deck, but the shell had rusted out. Everything transfers to the 54" deck. I'm in the process of de-rusting and figuring out what I need to buy (and from whom).

Definitely going to need all those special should bolts, wheel axles etc. All the standard bolts I bought new last year. I'll need the idler pulley and spring. Rear deck baffle. blades.

I don't really expect to use this deck much but I do want to get it looking good and working well before I put it up.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
