What needs to be repaired? It may have ACR if it threw a rod or the valve seat let go as they are known to do....

Select your engine and down load the service manual from this link.

Edit: This should be the manual for the 23 HP http://www.kohlerengines.com/onlinec..._690_01_EN.pdf

Call Kohler and ask them, they made it. I'm sorry but I don't have an answer for you. Not to be rude but I think most of us on this forum do not have a glowing opinion of the Kohler Courage engine. Most consider it to be a Hand Grande with the pin pulled.

Yeah I know it's in a "Cub Cadet" but the reality is that the last somewhat true Cubs were the 1864 and 2284, after that came the 2000 and 3000 series. Anything past that is MTD with a Cub sticker. Some of the 2000 and 3000 stuff is pretty good but the pre 1997 stuff is the best. It is what it is. Unfortunately you won't find much help on this or many other Cub forums for the stuff built after 1997, just being honest with you.

I dont know anything about the courage engine... but according to what I find they DO have an ACR.... but most say if they are hard to spin over the valves are out of adjustment... I know it was critical on the Briggs Vanguards of the early 90's..
Also heard overheating can cause the valve seats to let go and the valve guides to ride up which can all cause starting issues...

Let us know what you find!

Jay

Just for kicks I looked at the service manual and parts breakdown for the Courage V-twin and I don't see an ACR. The single does have an ACR.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
