400 Tiller Mount
Scored this 400 tiller today for a price too cheap to say no to. It was “custom” mounted on this 3 point plate that I’m not wanting to mount on any of my tractors. Does anyone have photos of how a 400 mounts to a IH style 3 point (aka sleeve hitch) vs a cat0? Or maybe even how it mounts to a cat 0 even. I have a couple of ideas but want to see what factory looks like first.

IIRC, the 400 tiller was made for use with a Cat 0 hitch. Only the “front” side is picked up using the hitch and the wheel on the back side is on the ground while driving the tractor.

Excellent. Thank you guys.
Looks like there was an adapting kit (404 is the model number) for sleeve hitch. Doesn’t look too tough to fab up. Wondering if I can just use the bottom bracket from the stock sleeve hitch or if I’m gonna have to fab up the bracket to mount on the tractor like mtd made. Also gonna have to figure out the rear wheel situation since mine is missing

You are missing the rear wheel on that tiller.

Thanks for the photo Sam. Looks like the bracket is still available (though it's spendy). Could probably fabricobble together the rest of it if I went that route. Finding a parts tiller would probably be ideal, but I get the feeling that they didn't make too many of these.
Partstree has a nice diagram of the original lift mechanism for sleeve hitch, and I found the manual to assemble it to the tractor on MTD's manual website.

It's cold outside and I haven't really felt like doing much, so I've procrastinated and doing some learnin'.
Have some modifying to do still and a few parts left to build, but getting close to having the factory design laid out in Fusion360. Then I can lay out the drawings and build some parts. Now that the ground is frozen, I won't be needing to till for a while anyway.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
