I wasn't responding to you, as evidenced by who I quoted. I was simply agreeing with your statements. I didn't realize nobody else could comment. They should put that in the site rules.

Best to ignore some of the unwritten rules that appear. I appreciated the
confirmation on the bends and hopefully the original poster has some
better idea on his 42A. Chime in anytime with whatever your thinking.

Thanks Ken for the encouragement. I've seen some rather irritating unwritten rules appear so far, so I quite appreciate it.

For years all my dad had on ours was a length of chain and two small clevis on each end.

I purchased a lift rod this year want to try it out. Think it was 28” for my 1250

It's literally a rod with a 90° bend on each end, and a hole for a cotter pin. I can measure the diameter if it helps.

As far as length, maybe this will help: http://www.xtrememotorworks.com/Snowblower%20Parts.html
Definitely not the same, as a 2182 should have a 451/551 2x blower.

Chain is nice in that it will float, always, and if you hit into a hill or whatever it can float up more. Bad news is it'll hit something else going up, vs being limited by the lift rod. I am contemplating adjusting my #450 lift rod to get some more height (lowered on flat/level surface is still at 3.5 on the height indicator), but want to alleviate other issues from arising.

It's pretty snug on my 1811 with the lift linkage. Fortunately they did a pretty dang good job designing them where nothing should interfere with the grill/front casting for a while (torsion rod is close, but doesn't move out of it's axis). I did pull the tunnel to clean/change trans filter and verified that the hydraulic lift was in the float pin).

I could probably rebush everything and gain a marginal amount of lift, too.

Should have? They were available, sure, but you can mount a QA42A to a 2182 as well. As I said in the comment you responded to, mine is a QA42A, NOT the 2-stage 451/551.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
