3240 mower deck issues
I took the blades off my 46” deck on my 3240 tractor to have them sharpened. Now my deck doesn’t blow the grasss out far and leaves a rod of
Grass in the middle. Prior to removing the blades it Would shoot the grass out very quickly. The blades Seem to the be cutting fine. Wondering what the problem may be. The blades were put back on correctly. Do they need to be timed? Or do I need new blades? |

Post a pic of your blades.

I had the same problem with my Snapper when I got it. Cut pretty good, but barely threw the grass out. Hi-Vac dec wouldn't "vac" much of anything up the bagger.
I sharpened the blade and put it back on as it was, still no better. Blade was pretty sharp, too. Looked closer and the cutting edge was on the back side of the blade. You couldn't imagine the difference it made when I flipped the blade so it turns in the right direction!! Between that issue and the $12 starter solenoid, it's no wonder I got that machine for the low low price of $50.

Well that blade is on correctly, I'd check that the other 2 are on correctly and that the nuts that hold them on the spindles are good and tight. I have seen decks that had 1 blade upside down and a couple that the nuts were not tight. This was a 60" Haban I bought, owner said it didn't cut good, yep 1 blade upside down.

Double check that all blades wing up and are tight. Did you remove the deck? If so make sure things are back in place correctly. Did you replace any belts? You may have a belt slipping. Keep us posted what you figure out.

I did not remove the deck or the belt. I jacked up the front of the machine and took off all three blades. I will try and jack it up tomorrow and investigate further,

I believe the big spacer goes between the blade and the spindle according to the parts lookup.

I checked under the deck and see what u mean by the large spacer. Prior to me removing the blades last week I had them done by an old school cub cadet dealer. Maybe they put them on wrong. Also, I can see each blades is at a different angle. Should they all spin at the angle?

I don't know that deck. But the spacer looks wrong.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
