LT1042 Different Deck Spindles
I have searched Google and on here and can't find this answer. I have a LT1042 (13BX11CG712) and need to replace both Deck Blade Spindle as one has froze up. Everywhere I look it gives me three options for spindle part #'s each with different exploded view diagrams. How can I tell which one mine has as it appears to have already been replaced and has no numbers on it anywhere? I'm gonna replace both at once since I'm sure the other one is soon to fail too.
Sincerely, Chris Gaines cgaines78@yahoo.com |

It gives you 3 options because there is a serial number break. Go to cubcadet.com and look up the parts according to your model and serial number.
On a tractor that new, if the spindle locked up. Oh, by the way... I've heard of you. Isn't your name really Garth Brooks? |

When I goto https://www.cubcadet.com/equipment/c...vice-and-parts it only allows lookup by Model # not Serial # and Model # gives me the same three options.
Also these have never been greased since they do not have grease plugs to be greased. I think that means they are original since all the replacements I see have fittings. Also this mower is at least 11 years old so I say I got my $ worth out of them. And yes you just proved your age with the Garth reference! It was very hard to write a check back then. Thanks, Chris |

I've got a 30 and 40 (maybe older than 40) with the original spindle bearings. 11 years is disappointing.
I looked up your tractor.... kind of. There are 2 or 3 different part books depending on year (or serial number) of the tractor. No, you don't put the SN in, but the different ebooks list what machine they are for. Then, when you go to the deck, it lists 3 different decks depending on deck model. Find your model. If you can't figure it out, pick the one that looks like yours. |

Chris:
I have spent the time to dig into this situation. This is one of this situation where CC made another oddities. Bottom line is this. Observation between style A with B or C could narrow your spindle down. If it looks like either B or C, since they are very similar, tear down and measuring the internal spacers, are you going to know, what actual spindle you have. If your Spindle looks like style A, no need to worry about the other two. All three spindles have been superseded to newer part numbers. A = 618-04124A B = 918-04456B C = 918-0624B Yes, bearings of yester-year may have lasted 30-40 yrs. But the newer stuff, couple with no grease fittings, leads to your situation.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
