Project 3240

[Oak]

I've been looking for a 3240, the 40th Anniversary tractor, and found this one last year. It has about 1550 hours on it but I picked it up for a decent price. I need to thin the herd a little so I think I'll move it down the road. The wifey is out of town for a few days so I thought it would be a good time to pull it into the garage, crank up some tunes (XM39), crack a few Natty's and do some repair work and much needed cleaning.

This thing is filthy and I can't stand working on machines that are this bad so off come the tins and out comes the pressure washer.

I'm thinking the spool valve or one of the lines is leaking to be this bad in that area so the spool is getting rebuilt, new O rings in the lines and yes, more pics will be on the way.

Wow I didn't know they still built a actual garden tractor, but that looks like a beast to todays standards. Best of luck with the prep work and sale.

3000 series are MTD last SGT attempt with all shaft driven implements. Some like them and others who don't buy sub compact instead. All implements are pretty expensive but if you find a good deal owned by a guy who know how to engage a diff lock, you got a winner.

There is a 2003 CC3235/800hr for sale around my neck of the wood asking price $1650. Wheel weight, chains and the front snow blower included. Picture look having been take wen he was new, look too nice but who knows... I like the color shade on the 40th OAK just found, I think there is a 44" deck almost new on CL for $700 with the drive shaft waiting for you OAK :-)

Pulled the engine for a good cleaning and also broke out the pressure washer to clean the rest of it up.

Looks like an oil leak from a crank seal to me.

This side wasn't too bad but it got replaced also.

Pulled the carb for a good soaking and pulled all the tins off to clean all the junk out.

Cleaned all the grease and grime from under the fender pan and then pulled the lift valve to rebuild it.

Rebuilt the spool valve.

Not much to these. 1 snap ring and 2 O rings.

The O rings are 2.5mm wide with an ID of 11mm. I used McMaster Carr part #9262K234. They cost $7.46 for 100, guess I will have a few left over.




I cant find a good picture but the lines take two pieces to make a complete seal. On the left side of the picture are the O rings(McMaster part# 9452K19 -- $2.11/100) used on the 3K and cyclops machines and on the right are the back up rings(McMaster part# 5288T117 -- $2.60/100). The back up rings go on the line first with the concave side facing the O ring and then the O ring. The O ring always goes towards the pressure side of the fitting.

Man Todd, you do a good once over before putting a tractor up for sale. But nice and clean are also easier to sell, well sometimes
