So if I understand this correctly, I need to retain the indicator harness
and replace everything underneath it with a 1440?
Sigh. I will never find one of those in MT

Nothing is running me at any direction, just simply learning how things
work. It was my attempt at humor. I should know better. Thanks for
the help though. Actually realized I could check the Diode with my meter.
It seems to work fine.

Can I put 12 volts to this system without all things hooked up just to
explore how it all works? Don't want to let any magic smoke out.

What interests me about this Diode thing in the 1862, the first generation did not have it (at least according to Cub Cadet), yet the second generation did. So what prompted CC to add it...??

It looks like the diode was put in to prevent engine shutdown in one weird scenario. No one is sitting in the seat, the brake pedal is all the way down and the hydro lever is not adjusted correctly. (the hydro itself is in neutral but the lever is still in reverse). This would allow current to flow from the magneto to ground through the PTO and Reverse dash lights. This would also prevent the engine from starting. Maybe I have looked at this wrong?

Seems like a logical scenario to me Frank. I have spent some time
last couple days just messing around with a meter and trying to figure
out current paths through safety switches and PTO switches etc etc .
While starting to kinda get a clue. Sometimes it just makes my head
swim. Sure seems to be a whole lot more complicated then it had to
be.
