Looking to find out what a fair price would be. It cranks easily but doesn't start. I have the mower deck and attachment hardware. But the deck is not in good shape. Also have a lawn spreader and lawn roller.

That is a part number or casting number.
The serial number would be something around 65,000 or lower.
A Dec '61 build would be #21682 or below
And will be stamped (not cast) into the reduction housing on the right side.
The lower the number the better. 3 digit would be awesome and command a higher price.
Not running..... Worth about $300 around here if the deck is in decent shape.

Can't tell ya what a fair price would be exactly. Without seeing it in person tho I can say I would pay $250 - $350 for it. Now If I got there and saw it was in really nice shape or in really bad shape my price would go up or down by $100 in either direction.

When people talk fair price, there can be a huge difference in whats fair depending on if you are the buyer or the seller.

How much are they asking?

It was donated to my daughter by a neighbor who is moving. His father bought it new. It has been in his crawl space for about 25 years. They donated it to us to help fund a semester abroad trip for our 16 year-old daughter. (We made her come up with a means to fund her trip so it was part of a garage sale) . I have "some" mechanical ability and thought I may be able to get it running. Just do not have the time. Cleaned down to the carb which will need to be rebuilt/replaced. Has new battery and coil.
I would be happy with $350 just to get it out of my garage. Want to get my Cobra back in.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
