Which oil?
I'm going to change the oil in my 100 this weekend and was wondering what brand and weight ya'al use in your Cubs?
Also, is there anywhere online I can order a filter? What one do I need? I've been looking through partstree, and can't find squat.

Do we assume you are talking about the crankcase oil from the Kohler...???  If so, this is what is recommended by Kohler and Cub Cadet as found in our Technical Library Section...... Oil As far as brand.....your call..

Do they make a external pump/filter setup for the older kohlers?
That's reasonable?

The oil recommendation from the link brings up a question. I run straight 30W in my 149 but plan on putting the blower on this winter for the first time since I purchased it. According to the chart I should switch to a multi-viscosity oil. If I warm the block prior to use with a magnetic block heater, will it still be necessary to run the 10W-30?

No. the multi weight only has low viscosity a temps under 40deg F.
If you keep it inside, or heated....it doesn't make a difference. And second. There aren't small passages that need oil pumped through them by a pump. So thinner oil is not needed either way. And being air cooled, it heats up so fast, the multi weight oil is only the thinner oil for minutes. I Always use 30wt, with a magnet on the pan, close to the plug.

Most it not all small motor manufactures recomend the owner/user to use straight 30 above 32 degrees and 10W-30 below 32 degrees on the older motors. It doesn't take very long to have any oil related damage done to a motor. Heated buildings are nice....until the fuel supply/power source isn't working.
F7Hooligan My 149 can be a a pain to start in the wintertime. The hydro pump is spinning/pumping besides the when you try to start it. I don't use any heaters on the motor or trans in the wintertime.
