Here's a link to the upper bushing for the the steering column. http://ihccw.com/steering.html Near the bottom of the page you'll see part #IH 866105 R1. That's what you're looking for

Bob, If you want to get ride of the slop at the top of the column you might want to up grade that bushing to a bearing. You can pick up a bearing at your local farm store. Take that sleeve at the top of you column off, just tap it off with a punch and hammer. Then you can install the bearing in the column and put the cap back on. I buy the bearings from TSC for like 5 bucks, you have to take a little bit off the edge of the bearing to get the cap back on but not much. I just did one this week. I used a Hillman radial bearing size 3/4"x1-3/8". Once you put the steering wheel back on you never know it's in there and your column won't move around anymore. I tried to take a picture but it just wouldn't show it very well at all. Good luck.

Welcome, I just happened to remember I had that one. If it fits a bit loose, like mine did, I used a bit of black Silicon around the shoulder to secure it to the tube. I can't get over how smooth the steering turned out with that added and the SGT upgrade thrust bearing and ny-lock nut.

I used pipe tape to snug it up. But I did one with out anything and it was just as solid when it was back together. It make's a huge difference.

I'm not exactly sure of the inner shaft diameter of an "O", but I have a bucket of old cub front wheel bearing that I use for this purpose. They fit perfect. Even if they are a little worn...say, too much for a front wheel, they will still be 200% better than no bushing in the column

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
