Default SLT1550 electric problem

This cub cadet was left at house I just bought. I tried to start it. The starter engaged but didnt start. When I went to turn key to off and try again the starter stayed engaged even though key was in off position. I had to disconnect battery cable to get the starter to stop. When I checked starter I noticed the red wire was hot to touch. The rest of wiring looks original no splices or changes to harness. The only thing missing is wire to oil sensor near oil filter. It has the 25hp Kohler Courage motor

Well I know nuttin about this new junk they build today, but if the starter is staying engaged i'd first check to see if the starter solenoid is receiving unwanted actuation power, if so, one would follow the wiring diagram to see why.
if the sol is not receiving the actuation power (small wire) then it is possible the
sol contacts are stuck together (large gauge wires)
obviously,
inheriting an unknown lawnmower is going to entail some detective work.
oh,
welcome to OCC

update. I switched out batteries other one wouldnt charge. it cranked normally. used a little ether and she started but stalled when i increased throttle. I think it might be old gas?? Also when i tried to crank it over again just got a click, gauge said i have 12.2 volts in battery. The battery is from a smaller ride on and has less crank amps then the one i pulled out.

Sounds like you have a couple of issues.

* You will need a "good battery".
* The battery cable connections (both positive & negative) and on both ends of each cable, need to be clean, bright, and tight.
* The starter needs to be pulled out, cleaned up, and lubricated.

Do yer self a favor and loose the Either, not what you want to use.
I could go into long detail about it's ill effects but will not bore everyone.

A little gas dribbled in the carb throat is good.
you prolly have issues with old gas, possibly gunked up carb/fuel system.
only guessing as you make no mention of how long said "patient" had been dead.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
